FLUX.2 is the text-to-image model family from Black Forest Labs. It spans the proprietary Pro and Flex variants plus the open 32-billion-parameter Dev model and the compact Klein series, unifying image generation and image editing in a single model.
FLUX.2 — explained in more detail
FLUX.2 is the successor generation of Black Forest Labs’ image model family, built by a team of former Stable Diffusion developers. Unlike the first generation, FLUX.2 unifies text-to-image generation and image editing in a single system and is designed for production-grade creative workflows, with a focus on prompt adherence, detail fidelity and reliably embedded text.
The family comes in several tiers: FLUX.2 [pro] is the closed flagship and FLUX.2 [flex] a proprietary variant with fine-grained control — both offered as hosted API models. FLUX.2 [dev] is the open model with around 32 billion parameters, downloadable under the non-commercial FLUX license; commercial use requires a separate agreement with Black Forest Labs. The line is rounded out by FLUX.2 [klein] with compact variants (4 billion parameters under Apache 2.0, 9 billion under the non-commercial FLUX license).
Example / In practice
A studio can generate a product photo with FLUX.2 and then edit it directly in the same model — swapping the background or adjusting text in the image — without switching models. For scaled production this runs through the Pro or Flex API, while the open Dev and Klein variants allow local self-hosting and fine-tuning.
Distinction from similar terms
FLUX.2 is an image model and falls under the image & video use case; motion is handled by models such as Sora or Veo. Compared to Google’s Imagen and the Gemini-native Nano Banana models, FLUX.2 positions itself above all through its open, self-hostable variants.
