Claude Opus 5 is the model in Anthropic’s Opus line unveiled on 24 July 2026, succeeding Claude Opus 4.8. Within the Claude family, Opus has traditionally been the line built for depth and complex reasoning. With version 5, Anthropic no longer frames the model as a niche tool for only the hardest tasks, but as a powerful default model for everyday use across enterprises, knowledge workers and developers.
Anthropic describes Opus 5 as coming close to the frontier intelligence of the larger Claude Fable 5 — at roughly half the price. Pricing sits at about 5 US dollars per million input tokens and 25 US dollars per million output tokens, keeping it level with its predecessor Opus 4.8. The model becomes the default for Claude Max subscribers and is available across Anthropic’s paid plans and the API.
