Grok 3

Reasoning model from xAI (Elon Musk's AI company), released on 17 February 2025. Trained on the Colossus supercluster, with 'Think' reasoning and DeepSearch plus real-time access to X. Proprietary access via the Grok app and API.

Grok 3 — explained in more detail

Grok 3 is the model unveiled by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, on 17 February 2025. It succeeded Grok 2 and was positioned as a significant leap in reasoning, mathematics, coding, world knowledge and instruction following. Grok 3 was trained on xAI’s “Colossus” supercluster in Memphis with around 200,000 GPUs — according to xAI, with roughly ten times the compute of previous state-of-the-art models.

A core feature is the reasoning mode (“Think”): the model can “think” for seconds to minutes, correct errors and explore alternatives before answering. It also offers “DeepSearch,” an agentic research mode, along with real-time access to content on the X platform. The context window is around 128,000 tokens. In the benchmarks cited by xAI, Grok 3 achieved high scores on, among others, the AIME 2025 mathematics exam and the expert-reasoning test GPQA.

Access is proprietary, via the Grok app, the X integration and the xAI API.

Example / practical relevance

Grok 3 suits tasks that require current information and multi-step reasoning: research on up-to-the-minute topics via the X access, solving mathematical or logical problems in Think mode, or coding support. The DeepSearch mode bundles several search steps into a summarised answer with sources.

For marketing and SEO, the real-time angle is especially interesting — for example quickly capturing trends and discussions on X that classic, more slowly indexed sources have not yet reflected.

Distinction from similar terms

Grok is xAI’s model line and is therefore distinct from models by other providers (OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini). Grok 3 is the successor to Grok 2 and was later itself succeeded by Grok 4. Characteristic of the line are its tight X integration, real-time access, and a tendency toward fewer content restrictions than some competitors.
