Technical SEO

Server, crawling and performance topics in search engine optimisation — from Core Web Vitals through crawling and indexing to structured data, PageSpeed and JavaScript rendering.

Technical SEO is the foundation beneath all content: the layer that ensures search engines can find, fetch, understand and index your pages at all — before a single word of content fights for rankings. The best text is useless if the crawler can’t reach it, the page loads too slowly or rendering fails. This is about servers, code and delivery, not keywords.

How the building blocks fit together

It starts with crawling and indexing: how search engines discover your pages through links, sitemaps and the robots.txt, which ones they’re allowed to fetch and which actually make it into the index. Through robots meta tags, canonical declarations and the crawl budget you control what gets indexed. Only after that does it matter how well a page is delivered.

That’s where the Core Web Vitals come in — Google’s measurable user-experience signals: LCP (Largest Contentful Paint, how fast the main content appears), INP (Interaction to Next Paint, how smoothly the page responds to input) and CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift, how stable the layout stays). They’re a confirmed, if modest, ranking factor. PageSpeed and performance go beyond that: TTFB, caching, image optimisation, compression and lean resources — everything that complements the raw CWV measurement.

Closely tied to this is JavaScript SEO: whether you deliver server-side (SSR), client-side (CSR) or with hydration decides whether the crawler sees finished content on first fetch or has to render first — with direct consequences for crawling and indexing. And structured data (Schema.org as JSON-LD) makes your content machine-readable and lays the basis for rich results in the search listings.
